New Oak Railway Sleepers

New Oak Sleepers
Our new untreated oak railway sleepers are an ideal, clean alternative to reclaimed railway sleepers that are often impregnated with creosote. Our new oak sleepers are:

• 100% organic
• No creosote or chemicals
• Extremely strong
• Numerous uses inside and outside
• Durable – natural oils and dense grain results in hard wearing
• Affordable

New oak railway sleepers have numerous uses both inside and outside the home including; patios, beams/lintels, fire surrounds, garden furniture, bridges, steps, rustic-pathways, edging, raised flower/vegetable beds, decorative features etc...

Most of our new oak sleepers are fairly square with some having a slight 'wane' or bevel on one or two edges. New oak sleepers soon 'weather' to an attractive silver/grey colour when exposed to the sun and rain. All our oak sleepers are unseasoned and may develop splits and cracks with age, giving them character and that rustic look!

Note:
Many of our customers make fantastic rustic furniture from our new oak but please be aware that the wood is unseasoned (contains natural moisture), is not kiln dried and thus not sold as ’carpentry’ quality.

Our new oak will show some imperfections; cracks, knots, marks, some wane and even the odd insect nibble. The wood may distort, move and shrink slightly as it ages. All adding to its character and giving it the rustic look. The wood is sold as ‘sleeper’ or ‘garden’ grade which is reflected in our prices.
